Jonathan Showstack Career Advancement Award in Health Policy / Health Services Research

 

This annual award provides supplementary financial assistance to enable junior faculty in the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies (Institute) to pursue opportunities that will help shape and advance their careers. Funds may be requested, for example, to attend a professional conference, to collect pilot data, to provide research incentives for study participants, or to address special circumstances that would otherwise hamper career advancement.

Awards may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on specific circumstances.

Criteria:

  • Institute faculty member at Assistant Professor level (any series).
  • Involvement in health policy and/or health services research.
  • Relevance of proposed activity to faculty member’s career.
  • Insufficient other support for proposed activity.

Jonathan A. Showstack, PhD, MPH, Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Health Policy, Emeritus, joined the UCSF Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies in 1976. Over the past 30+ years, Jon’s research, his collaboration and support of the research of others in the Institute and UCSF, and his mentoring have been instrumental in the development of the Institute as a world leader in health policy/health services research.

In recognition of Jon’s many contributions to the career advancement of faculty and staff and Jon’s leadership in building the science of health policy and health services research, the Institute established the Jonathan Showstack Career Advancement Award in Health Policy/Health Services Research.
