Katrina Kimport, PhD will give the November Health Policy Grand Rounds. State-level bans and severe restrictions on abortion lead to delayed and denied healthcare, with impacts that go far beyond clinical care. Drawing on interviews with obstetrics patients whose care was affected by restrictive laws, this talk examines the long-term consequences of abortion bans on patients’ physical health, mental health, and fertility desires.

Katrina Kimport, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and sociologist in the Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) program at the University of California, San Francisco.  Her research examines the (re)production of inequality in health and reproduction, with a topical focus on abortion, contraception, and pregnancy.
