Overview
James Deardorff, MD is a geriatrician and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. He has a particular interest in improving clinical care for older adults admitted to skilled nursing facilities for short-term rehabilitation after hospitalization. As a researcher, he has published high-impact articles in JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. He currently holds an NIH-funded K76 Beeson award to develop multi-outcome prognostic models and enhance communication of prognosis for older adults admitted to skilled nursing facilities for post-acute care. He is a Research Scholar at the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living skilled nursing facility, where he oversees research projects related to post-acute and long-term care. As a clinician, he cares for patients receiving short-term rehabilitation at a skilled nursing facility and in the hospital on the geriatrics-orthopedic surgery co-management service and geriatrics consult service.
