Elisabeth Askin, MD

In this session, Elisabeth will focus on understanding Alternative Payment Models, primarily Medicare Advantage.

Elisabeth Askin, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief of Primary Care at the San Francisco VA Health Care System. Prior to working at the VA, she has been a primary care internist at UCSF Health, where she was also the Medical Director for Risk Capture in the Office of Population Health as well as the Director of Quality Improvement for the Division of General Internal Medicine.

She has an interest in health policy and explaining complicated policy - particularly around drug pricing - to a general audience. She has co-authored the book The Health Care Handbook, a primer for understanding the US health care system, with the third edition published in 2023. She serves as a mentor in the Society of General Internal Medicine Leadership in Health Policy Program.
