Cost and cost-effectiveness are often top of mind for policymakers, especially in times of economic uncertainty. Learn from two UCSF faculty experts in cost and cost-effectiveness  analysis about their experience translating their research for policymakers.

Reza Yaesoubi, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a health decision scientist whose research focuses on developing and applying analytical methods to inform data-driven and value-based decisions in clinical care, public health, and global health. His primary area of expertise lies in guiding decisions when evidence and data evolve too rapidly for static policies or guidelines to suffice—for example, during outbreaks of novel pathogens or the spread of antimicrobial resistance. He is also interested in advancing the theoretical and methodological foundations of adaptive decision-making and health care resource allocation.

James G Kahn MD, MPH is emeritus professor in the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, Institute for Global Health, and Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a health economist, with research in two major areas: (1) HIV, TB, reproductive health, and other disease prevention and treatment intervention cost, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness, in the US and low / middle income countries. (2) US health system performance and insurance reform, especially single payer / Medicare for All. He has been funded by NIH, CDC, the World Health Organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other foundations and agencies. He is the editor and chief blogger at Health Justice Monitor.
