Effects of State Policies Eliminating Prior Authorization Requirements for Medications for Opioid Use Disorder on Buprenorphine Utilization

Thuy Nguyen, PhD, is currently the John G. Searle Assistant Professor of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. As a health economist, her research has focused on access barriers to opioid addiction treatment and impacts of clinician regulations on health outcomes in the context of the opioid epidemic in the United States. Dr. Nguyen serves as principal investigator on multiple R01 awards investigating the impacts of cost-sharing, policies removing prior authorization requirements, and surgical exposure on health outcomes of patients with opioid use disorder. She received a PhD in economics from Maastricht University and post-doctoral training in health economics from Indiana University. Her work has been published in high-impact journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Journal of Health Economics.
