Dr. Lee embodied UCSF’s longstanding commitment to advocating for health equity at the national, state, and regional levels. Throughout his life, and during his tenure as chancellor, he was an indefatigable champion for the underserved. We can take inspiration from his example in our continued work to build a more just society, with equal access to quality, affordable health care for all.

A virtual event honoring the life of former UCSF Chancellor and Professor Emeritus of Social Medicine, Phillip R. Lee was celebrated at UCSF on February 25.

A fierce advocate for racial equity and health care reform and an inspiring leader and life-long mentor, Dr. Lee made an indelible mark on the nations’ health care environment. We will celebrate his trailblazing career and momentous achievements and hear from many of his colleagues, family members, and friends from across the nation who were influenced and inspired by him.
