Overview
Dr. Plantinga is an epidemiologist and health services researcher. Her research focuses on multidisciplinary, patient-centered approaches to improving the quality of care among underserved patients with chronic diseases, particularly those with lupus and chronic and end-stage kidney disease. In her most recent work, she is examining the prevalence and correlates of functional impairment among individuals with lupus and the experiences of the dialysis workforce and the relationship of these experiences with patient care.
Dr. Plantinga has mentored trainees and peers from many fields, including medicine, public health, and nursing. She is a Senior Board Member for BMC Nephrology and serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.
